What does The Buddha on Ice mean?
The Buddha on Ice is a play on “The Nutcracker on Ice”, “Disney on Ice” or “Holiday’s on ice”. In 1979 Mattel’s Irvin & Kenneth Feld Productions licensed the rights to several of the Walt Disney Company’s characters and intellectual property. Several years later, “Disney on Ice” was born and became a household name. The success of this show led to a wide range of copycat shows following in their footsteps. Various pop culture mainstays such as “The Wizard of Oz”, “Grease”, and “Starlight Express” were adapted to the format. The shows were meant to give fans a way to enjoy their favorite shows and media in real life. If Dorothy, the Tin Man and Toto can be put on Ice as a way for people to relate to and enjoy their favorite shows and pop culture, why not The Buddha and The Dharma?
